There is a place for everyone at Summer’s Best Two Weeks! Whatever your age or stage, read on to see how you can be a part of the ministry. At the bottom there, there is a brief volunteer application to let us know you’re interested and help us get to know you if we don’t already. All volunteers working directly with children receive training and are screened and background-checked in accordance with our child protection policy

Junior Counselors are teens that serve alongside a college-age senior counselor and are generally responsible for modeling Christ-like character, shepherding a particular squad of campers through each day’s activities, and enthusiastically welcoming and getting to know their campers. It is a fantastic opportunity for fun and service and growth in your own skills and relationship with God, with campers, and with your fellow staff.

Work crew is similar to junior counselors, but instead of working directly with a squad of campers, work crew is responsible for moving around and setting up equipment, putting it away, cleaning up, and any other “work” that needs to be done!

Many of our senior counselors (college-age) come from outside the Tidewater area and travel here specifically for this summer ministry. As they move from site to site, they live with host families from each site. This both meets a practical need for these counselors, and is also a blessing to counselor and host family alike to form relationships and be encouraged by the work that God is doing in all of his people.

For adults who are available during the camp day, there are a variety of roles, depending on the needs at the specific site. The most common needs are for lunch-makers (we provide lunch for the counselors) and check-in/check-out. Some sites also needs various other volunteers to provide extra supervision in particular areas, lead a specific activity (especially if there is something you love!), or just provide general availability and assistance
